Nanci A. Smith Publishes Second Book

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Meet Anne Dennish, author of "Waking Up: Lessons Learned Through My Adventures with Life and Breast Cancer!" Now, Anne may not sound familiar to you, but that's because she chose to use a pen name. Most of you will know her as "Nanci Smith," a journalist for the Wall Revue at Wall Stadium Speedway. She writes a weekly column called "The Need for Speed." The famous Wall Stadium is identical in size and dimensions to the last race track in operation in Rhode Island called the Lonsdale Speedway. Ray Evernham also calls his modified home the Wall Stadium. She is also a contributor to the RacingAroundJersey.com Wall Stadium News page where she brings us her special insight on the historic Jersey Shore oval.
Anne/Nanci battled her breast cancer while spending her weekends at Wall Stadium, even racing in Powder Puff the week before her chemo started. The track family had a small fundraiser for her by having pink ribbons with her name printed on them. You found them on every single race car at Wall.

People in racing often refer to those they know at the track as family. Their racing family. This couldn't be more true for Anne/Nanci. Wall Stadium Speedway allowed her to escape the reality of her battle with cancer for a few hours each week while still being surrounded by people who cared about her.

She even met her current boyfriend, Robert Contreras, at the track. Rob was a crewman on the Ronnie Mullen Factory Stock, which sort of made Nanci a team member as well. She soon found herself involved with the team on many levels from sponsorship, to social media, and more.

Many of her experiences at Wall have made their way into her new book, but it is probably best if we just let her tell you what it is about. Below you will find the book bio provided by Anne/Nanci.
"Waking Up" is an up-close and personal look at one woman's journey throughout life and breast cancer. She shares intimate stories of divorce, relationships, children, addiction and more, as well as the private journal of her battle with breast cancer.
This is a book that has something for everyone in it. The author shares personal short stories and quotes of her experiences in handling the good times and the bad. "Waking Up" will tell you how this one woman learned to handle them all with grace, dignity, love and a lot of laughter.
Anne/Nanci will be having her first book signing this Saturday at BookTowne in Manasquan from 1pm to 3pm. We are hoping you will take advantage of this opportunity to meet this special woman who is a part of our racing family.

If you cannot attend the book signing, but would like to purchase a copy, it is available at Barnes and Noble.com, Amazon.com, and in both the NOOK, and Kindle formats.

We also suggest you take a minute to visit the Anne Dennish website where Nanci features updated blog posts, and pictures, of her journey through life.
