Shawn Flynn and his fiancée are excited to start their new life together. They are planning a wedding and have bought a new home. The last thing the two of them need right now is a new cat.

But their recently purchased house seems to come complete with a stray orange feline—a cat with a vibrant personality and a talent for mousing. So Shawn soon finds himself with a regular companion. Little does he realize that this cat will shortly become more important to him than he can possibly imagine.

As Shawn’s personal life begins to shift in ways he never saw coming, Kitty remains a constant source of stability and comfort. Shawn gave Kitty a home, and now Kitty gives Shawn the love he needs to heal.

In the spirit of James Bowen's best seller A Street Cat Named Bob, THE KITTY is a touching and inspiring story of heartfelt companionship that offers an uplifting perspective on what it means to find true friendship in this world. Anyone who has ever shared a meaningful connection with a pet will fall head over heels in love with Kitty and Shawn.

As Shawn discovers, sometimes we don’t even realize we need to be rescued—until we are.

MOONLIGHT HELMSMAN Robert Smalls’ Amazing Escape by Richard Maule

2017 recipient of 7 national awards for Historical Fiction, African American Literature, and Best First Novel.

He was alone in dreaming it could be done, but on a moonlit night in 1862, the slave Robert Smalls stole the Confederate flagship and sailed off to freedom. Richard Maule’s novel, Moonlight Helmsman, brings to life one of the most amazing stories in our nation’s history.

Born into bondage, Smalls longs for the sailor’s life, and by the time the Civil War begins, he is assigned to pilot a Rebel ship in Charleston Harbor. Through a dramatic chain of events, Robert conspires to steal the boat, taking his friends and family along. His diverse crew includes his strong-minded wife Hannah, his preacher-turned-engineer Deke, and a fascinating madman named Spider Jefferson. Their intricate plot requires imagination, stealth, and the brazenness to defy certain death.

Taking the reader through treacherous channels, explosive mines, and enemy forts, the author leads us to a nail-biter of a climax. Faithful to the facts of history, Moonlight Helmsman is a gripping and inspiring testimony to the power of the human will. Kirkus Reviews says, “Maule skillfully renders Smalls’ life through fictional embellishment, powerfully portraying his indomitable longing for liberty… a riveting story, and a sadly neglected sliver of American history… a seamless weave of historical investigation and fictional drama starring an African-American hero."

Book Signing and Launch at An Unlikely Story Book Store, Plainville, Mass. 4-7-18

Posted by Wayne G. Barber  Photos by Wayne G.Barber

It seems that the month of April is loaded with a lot of book signings and book launches in New England.

An Unlikely Story book store is owned by author Jeff Kinney, Diary of a Wimpy Kid series and a great modernization of a older building on a typical old New England main street. The 1st floor is well lit and well stocked with the latest books and gifts. A large café had every seat taken and the aroma was intoxicating and inviting to place a order after browsing the awesome space. The book signings by elevator were on the 2nd floor with it's own bar and lounge area and lots of room to mingle. I was there last Saturday night for Gled'e Brown Garbongo 3rd book to a very good crowd and today the lineup features 6 authors.

Kenneth Garelick with George's Hurricanes

Donna Lomastro with Puppup Puppy Barks Real loud

Jill Fague, This Unfamiliar Road

D,R.Perry  Numerous books

Joe Cetrone   The Sallie House; Exposing the Beast Within.

Julie Etter with Lily and Andrew are Moving.

Angelia Singer I could not find at the signing. I apologize if I missed her.

19 Things People Say When You Tell Them You Work In Radio

Posted by Wayne G. Barber
Work in radio? Then you'll know that as soon as you tell someone what you do, they'll have a few things to say:
1- What station do you work for? Oh, I don’t listen to that one…
2- Have you met anyone famous?
3- Oh, you've got a face for radio, (Laughs hysterically like they're the first person to ever say that)
4- Can I send you my demo?
5- Oh, I used to be a Club DJ myself.
6- I only listen to it in the car.
7- I don’t like the music that station plays.
8- You don’t play enough music.
9- You don’t talk enough.
10- Can you give me a shout out?
11- So are you like, on air? Or What?
12- I hate (Insert presenter name here)
13- Can you get me gig tickets?
14- You should put me on the radio, I’d be good.
15-You work in radio? Oh, I DJ at weddings.
16- I remember when (insert station name) used to be (insert station name that used to be on the same frequency)
17- I'm in a band, can you get them to play my song?
18- What is (insert name of breakfast presenter) like?
19- I don't listen to the radio.
