For Detective Ebony Jones, crime is always personal. But this time, it strikes too close to home.

A pop-up thunderstorm marched its way across the Hudson River, ambushing a young couple's kayaking trip. The woman miraculously made it back to shore, but her fiancé remains missing. Ebony and her partner are the first responders who rush to the river to assist in rescuing the capsized boater.

The victim's identity shocks Ebony to the core. Kyle Emory, the ex-boyfriend of her estranged best friend, attorney Jessie Martin, is the man who never made it out of the water. The accident ignites a firestorm between the two friends, pitting them against each other in a race to discover whether Kyle survived or whether he met his untimely demise. Under pressure from the chief and the DA, Ebony needs to solve the mystery, while Jessie seeks justice for the sake of the daughter she shares with Kyle.

The investigation leads them through the dark worlds of social media, online sports betting, and extreme sports. Along the way, they uncover lies and betrayals, and gather a list of dangerous suspects who are all linked to the accident survivor, Kyle's mysterious fiancée. Even more, the discovery that Kyle possessed his own life-shattering secrets has trapped Ebony between her career and her lifelong friendship with Jessie. Yet neither Ebony nor Jessie will stop until they discover the truth about the drowning. Even if it destroys their friendship and their lives.

But the evidence is as murky as the secretive Hudson River. Only the river knows whether Kyle's tragic death was an accident, a suicide, or something more sinister.

Author Anders Morley will discuss, This Land of Snow

A passionate skier since he was a child, Anders Morley dreamed of going on a significant adventure, something bold and of his own design. And so one year in his early 30s, he decided to strap on cross-country skis to travel across Canada in the winter alone.

This Land of Snow is about that journey and a man who must come to terms with what he has left behind, as well as how he wants to continue living after his trip is over. It is an honest, thoughtful, and humorous reckoning of an adventure filled with adrenaline and exuberance, as well as mistakes and danger. Along the way listeners gain insight, both charming and fascinating, into Northern outdoor culture and modern-day wilderness living, the history of northern exploration and Nordic skiing, the right to roam movement, winter ecology, and more.

Throughout, Morley's clear, subtle, and self-deprecating voice speaks to a backwoods-genteel aesthetic that explores the dichotomy between wildness and refinement, language and personal story, journey and home.

At 9:05am   Author Joanne Leedom-Ackerman will discuss Burning Distance

When ten-year-old Elizabeth West’s father dies in a tragic plane crash over the Persian Gulf, her family uproots their life in Washington, D.C., and moves to London. Her mother marries a knighted British businessman who has two children, and Elizabeth (Lizzy) and her two sisters move in with their new family.

At age sixteen, while attending the American School of London, Lizzy meets and falls in love with Adil Hasan—but when Adil’s father, a noted arms middleman, is deported, Lizzy and Adil are separated.

Lizzy’s family has also become involved with French-German industrialist Gerald Rene Wagner. Little does she know that Adil’s family has ties to the man, as well. When a member of her family is murdered in Berlin under mysterious circumstances, questions surface about Wagner’s dealings, and Lizzy reexamines what really may have happened to her father. All the while, she endeavors to reunite with her lost love, Adil, and reclaim the connection that was ripped away.

Set in the years before and after the first Gulf War,
Burning Distance is a journey through family secrets and competing loyalties, contemporary history, and the dark world of arms trafficking.

At 9:35am Author JoAnn M. Dickinson will discuss:

John's Adventures at Yellowstone Park

Have you visited Yellowstone National Park? If not, you should add it to your "must-see" vacation wish list. After visiting the park last year, I was inspired to write a new children's book packed with everything you will see when you visit Yellowstone Nation Park. "I loved it!"

My book included the history of Yellowstone, including
Grand Prismatic Springs, The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, hot springs, mud pots, fumaroles, and geysers including "Old Faithful" and Native American Tribes which makes it another great book for the classroom. I've also included information about the species of animals in Yellowstone Park since 1872 like grizzly and black bears, wolves, mountain lions, bison, pronghorn moose, and elk.

About the book: Come along with John and his family as they go on another camping adventure to Yellowstone Park.
Each member of John's family has a sight-seeing favorite they want to explore. John wants to become a Junior Ranger, Dad wants to visit the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, Mom wants to learn more about the Grand Prismatic Springs, and Emma can't wait to see the volcanic mud pots that bubble, hiss, and boil.
What will happen during the family's visit? It's sure to be an unforgettable journey!

This book will teach kids about:

  • When Yellowstone was founded in 1872 by Ulysses S. Grant
  • the history of Yellowstone
  • geysers, fumaroles, mudpots, and geysers
  • grand prismatic springs
  • the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone
  • the Yellowstone Volcano
  • names of Native American Tribes
  • species of animals that live in the park
  • facts about Yellowstone
  • how to become a junior ranger at Yellowstone
  • Importance of family time

Tentatively scheduled for 9:05am, Author  Karen Michalson will discuss,

The Maenad's God

Boston 1992. Pete Morrow is a misanthropic FBI agent whose only escape from the colleagues and society he despises is through reading literary classics. When his boss sends him to warn away a drug dealer on an obscure army base, he discovers a murder and becomes obsessed with Jade McClellan, a mysterious man whose rock band just performed at the crime scene. Tough-guy Morrow has never been in love before—but Jade is almost magical, an embodiment of myth and literature who creates living fantasies that rapidly become the only thing Morrow values in his otherwise miserable life.

But there’s a problem. Morrow is investigating a mafia family that is investing in Jade’s musical career. Being open about their relationship could get both of them killed.

Morrow’s murder investigation annihilates his hard-boiled understanding of reality when he learns that Jade is an abandoned, mortal son of Dionysus, the god whose energy informs hard rock. Jade’s mafia support is being arranged by Dirty Penny Starmaker, a witch who started life in 5th century BCE Athens, where she received a divine mandate to promote brilliant musicians throughout history. Penny is in a centuries-old war with Hugh McCrae, a primeval, human-like “monster” who has currently incarnated himself as a congressional aide with an unhealthy interest in Morrow’s work. McCrae (rhymes with “decay”) carries his own divine mandate to promote cultural decline by eradicating creativity and art. At the present time, this includes Jade, his music, and Morrow’s newfound happiness.

After all, the universe must balance, no matter who gets destroyed in the process.

A seamless blend of thriller, dark satire, magical realism, forbidden LGBTQ romance, and myth, The Maenad’s God is the story of a spiritual war that’s been fought for thousands of years; the war between the ancient arts of music, poetry, and love; and the equally ancient forces of artistic envy, oppressive law, and authoritarian religion.

At 9:05am  Author  Sarah Mandel will discuss, " Little Earthquakes"  A Memoir

“Sarah Mandel has done something remarkable here. I found myself weeping, laughing with delight and moved with love—all in the span of the day it took me to devour this book. Filled with deliciously specific images and metaphors, clear dialogue, and rich explorations of self and others, Mandel has written—among other things—a tender witness statement of and for her body.”—Hala Alyan, author of Salt Houses

A psychologist, wife, and mother chronicles her extraordinary journey with cancer while pregnant with her second baby, and the insights into life, death, trauma, and healing that she gleaned—an utterly inspiring debut memoir reminiscent of the intimacy and emotional power of Paul Kalanithi’s When Breath Becomes Air and Kate Bowler’s No Cure for Being Human.

When clinical psychologist Sarah Mandel was pregnant with her second child, she began preparing for her maternity leave, juggling the demands of her soon-to-be-new baby with the needs of her patients. Noticing a lump in her breast, she assumed it was most likely a clogged milk duct. But a biopsy revealed it was not. When she went into labor, she learned that she had Stage Four cancer—devastating news that forced her to confront terminal illness as she was bringing new life into the world.

But Sarah's illness took a highly improbable turn when, after three months of treatment, her second PET scan showed no evidence of disease. Sarah, however, was unable to celebrate the good news; she was frozen in a dissociated state caused by the emotional whiplash of going from oncology patient to new mother, from a terminal sentence to a shocking reprieve. As a therapist who specialized in trauma work, Sarah had utilized “narrative therapy” to help her patients. Now she wondered: Could the treatment that eased her patients’ pain successfully help her navigate her own trauma?

Little Earthquakes is a beautiful and thought-provoking debut from a brave and unwavering new voice that captures the mind, sears the soul, and leaves its indelible mark on the heart.

Tentatively scheduled, author Steven Joseph will discus " Snoodles in Space"

"In the award-winning book “Snoodles, Kidoodles, Poodles, and Lots and Lots of Noodles,” Steven Joseph and Andy Case introduced us to a world where everyone was happy because of one man, Herbie Snoodleman, the inventor of the Snoodlemoblie, powered solely by noodles. It had replaced Sour Croodleman’s Krautmobile, which ran on sauerkraut and made everyone quite a bit cranky.

In this follow-up book, when the Zoodle Kidoodles from the planet Zoodle abduct Norman Noodle and Sally Stroodle, the Zoodle Kidoodles threaten to take all of Earth’s noodles— unless they perform the necessary brain operation on their grand leader, Cloodle the Grand Roodle, and fix their spaceship’s failing engines.

The one problem? Norman Noodle and Sally Stroodle are simple bakers. Sour Croodleman’s Prickly Peppered Purple Propulsion Powered Pickle invention is their only hope, but will he unite with Herbie Snoodleman to save the planet?

The answer is here, in this Wackadoodle Tale from Outer Space!

Jack and Jim, two footloose, lifetime friends and beer drinking buddies, are out back-roading when they spot the cabin.
Aha, it’s treasure, treasure indeed, and much more.

As Jack runs out with some little gold figures, deputies start shooting. They have discovered a way to travel the time road disguised as a dilapidated shack. The only problem is those deputies. A “start no violence” command is broken; now, travelers must dodge lawmen. Jack throws the gold back in; time returns to normal. Some old letters reveal the secret: twenty-four figurines, twenty-four destinations; just dodge the law.

˃˃˃ After learning to be traders as directed, a year later, they grab Kokopelli and jump into 1822 New Mexico, landing in the middle of some Jicarilla Apache.

Kokopelli, the Indian god of fertility and good fortune, keeps them alive. William Becknell, the first American trader allowed in New Mexico, thinks they’re crazy; the hidalgos love their trade goods, and Indians respect them. Violent Spanish culture, savage Apache, and untamed 1822 New Mexico make them far richer than expected, two treasures return home.

Jim finds out he’s a dad, Jack becomes a foreman, life is good, but change comes. Ranch owners die after making Jim’s son a beneficiary, and natural heirs force a sale, questioning the will. A killing makes the ranch’s fate uncertain. What exactly have they become, and does that evolution help today?

When some of America’s military men are captured or go missing during the Vietnam War, a small group of military wives become their champions. Never had families taken on diplomatic roles during wartime, nor had the fate of our POWs and missing men been a nationwide concern. In cinematic detail, authors Taylor Baldwin Kilan3d and Judy Silverstein Gray plunge you directly into the political maneuvering the women navigated, onto the international stage they shared with world leaders, and through the landmark legacy they created.

n 2013 I survived the Boston Marathon Bombing. First Light serves as a guide from the time of the bombing, to my life with PTSD, my experience with healing, relationships and motherhood. In the courtroom, I told the bomber that "I know one day I'll be a better mother and my husband a better father because we will show our children all that is good in this world; all there is to be thankful for." This collection is a tribute to that commitment and a testament to the idea that we can keep going.

At 9:05am  Author will discuss his book, Past Imperfect

When his rabbi calls him after Yom Kippur, private eye Benjamin Gold thinks it’s just to yell at him for skipping services—but it’s even worse than that.

It turns out that Benny missed more than some prayers and a sermon: While everyone else was atoning for their sins, a fight broke out in synagogue when a visitor accused one of the leading members of the congregation of being a Nazi collaborator.

Is Mendel Kahn the upstanding benefactor of Cleveland’s Jewish community he seems to be? Is his real-estate fortune the product of ten years of hard work and good luck, or does his success have a more sinister origin? Is he even Mendel Kahn—or is he really Yitzhak Fried, who exploited and tortured his fellow Jews during the War?

As Gold digs into Kahn’s dark story, he learns that the man’s present is bad enough: he’s a slumlord, a gangster, and a sadist. He also doesn’t appreciate being investigated…and he has some large and dangerous friends. Can Benjamin Gold survive long enough to uncover the real story of Mendel Kahn’s past?

Unfortunately, her best friend has hatched a plot of her own—one that will not only put her in the line of danger, but will pull Wren onto the stage of world events. Why doesn’t Stella fit in? Why can’t she just get along? It’s not like she has it so bad. Born into a paradise. Healthy, beautiful, lacking nothing. What gives?

Is she an ingrate? No, quite the opposite. She believes her society is sick, sliding off a cliff into extinction, unaware, and wants to save her planet.

Stella can explain her convictions better later. What is important to know up front is that her plan involves Earth. She admires human ingenuity and imagination a lot, and for this considers human involvement key to her rescue plan.

Stella visits Earth and finds it easy to make friends, especially college-age male friends, possibly owing to the fact that she is drop-dead gorgeous. She falls in love with a charismatic John “the great one” with a monumental ego and is considered by many to be Capitalism’s greatest nightmare.

This is the context of a wild and satiric tale that the author hopes will transport you back to your twenties, if only briefly. Enjoy the ride.

Eighteen miles west of Boston sat a little ranch house nestled in a large pine grove. Everything appeared peaceful from the outside. On the inside, however, it was another story. There was a family of four, with two daughters close in age growing up completely differently from each other.

One of the daughters escaped the violence in the household by submerging herself in nature, becoming one with the universe. The older sister was more introverted and endured the violence through writing, art and music. Even as a young girl the older sister begged her mother to leave her abusive father, but her mother held on to the marriage eighteen years too long.

This is a story of survival and overcoming whatever adversities came her way, gaining strength through tough experiences and having fortitude, knowing there would always be something waiting around the corner. Join the author in her walk through an inter-dimensional journey, searching for love, acceptance and purpose.

Tentatively scheduled for 9:05 am   Author Sharon Tubbs will discuss.

They Got Daddy !

Lots of writers have tackled America's historic abuses of Black people and Black families. But few handle the subject as deftly as Sharon Tubbs, whose They Got Daddy connects the trauma which reverberated through her own family history when her grandfather was abused by powerful white people, to the larger history of Black America's attempts to survive similar oppression. Her story is poignant and carefully told, filled with telling details and powerful writing, making the case that such injustices never stay in the past, but are passed through a family's DNA in a way that makes the trauma a living thing to be coped with every day. They Got Daddy provides important lessons on how to understand — and hopefully come to terms with — a legacy of oppression which remains a potent force in America to this day.  -- Eric Deggans, National Public Radio, TV Critic and Media Analyst

January 15, 1959 was a day that changed the Page family forever. White supremacists kidnapped and severely beat rural Alabama preacher Israel Page, leaving him for dead. Why? Because Page, who was Black, had sued a White sheriff's deputy for causing devastating injuries in a car crash. The upcoming civil trial would surely result in the deputy paying a large sum for damages, so the kidnappers wanted to stop Page’s testimony. Justice was hard to come by in the 1950s Jim Crow South. In the end, Page was never compensated. The perpetrators who kidnapped him were never identified, so they faced no consequences. The tragic event left an indelible mark on Page's children and their future—a mark that some carried with them as they moved to the Midwest, had children of their own, and seldom spoke about the debacle. Decades later, the events of that day fueled journalist Sharon Tubbs's epic quest to learn who had “gotten” her mother’s daddy and why.

Part gripping family memoir, part journalistic crusade for the truth during the racially charged divisions in America, They Got Daddy follows Tubbs on her moving journey from Fort Wayne, Indiana, to the back roads and rural churches of Alabama. A powerful revelation of the sustaining and redemptive power of faith and unflinching testimony to the deeply embedded effects of racism across the generations.

This book is a true story that reads like a Hardy Boy adventure book. It starts out with Mark dreaming of roaming
throughout the country on a motorcycle camping, living and meeting new people along the journey. Then Mark
talks his two great friends into buying motorcycles and then quitting their jobs and the three leave their homes on September 8,1976. Mark and Steve didn't return until May 17,1977.
