Barrington’s Donohue Publishes Memoir About Growing up in Wartime Vietnam

Posted by Wayne G.Barber

Barrington's Mai Donohue has published a memoir, titled "Crossing the Bamboo Bridge: Memoirs of a Bad Luck Girl," of her early years of life in Vietnam and the challenges of growing up in wartime. There will be a book launch party at Simone's in Warren on September 25.
The book chronicles a childhood that was marked by poverty, abuse, and child marriage during wartime in Vietnam. Donohue ran away from the countryside of the city of Saigon, worked a number of low wage jobs, taught herself English, started her own business enterprises, met her husband Brian, a U.S. Naval officer, and relocated to Rhode Island.
The book took 20 years to come to fruition and first started as an essay in a class taught by ESL teacher Margaret Connell at CCRI.
Donohue has invited friends, family, and the community to join her for a book launch on September 25th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Simone’s restaurant in Warren. Signed books will be available for purchase. They will also be available from Amazon.com. More information, including the first chapter of the book, can be found at MaiGoodness.com.
